A Parabolic Almost Monotonicity Formula

We prove the parabolic counterpart of the almost monotonicity formula of Caffarelli, Jerison and Kening for pairs of functions u±(x, s) in the strip S1 = Rn × (−1, 0] satisfying u± ≥ 0, (∆− ∂s)u± ≥ −1, u+ · u− = 0 in S1. We also establish a localized version of the formula as well as prove one of its variants. At the end of the paper we give an application to a free boundary problem related to ...

Generalized Invexity and Generalized Invariant Monotonicity

In this paper, several kinds of invariant monotone maps and generalized invariant monotone maps are introduced. Some examples are given which show that invariant monotonicity and generalized invariant monotonicity are proper generalizations of monotonicity and generalized monotonicity. Relationships between generalized invariant monotonicity and generalized invexity are established. Our results...

(φ,ρ)-monotonicity and Generalized (φ,ρ)-monotonicity

In this paper, new concepts of monotonicity, namely (Φ, ρ)-monotonicity, (Φ, ρ)-pseudo-monotonicity and (Φ, ρ)-quasi-monotonicityare introduced for functions defined in Banach spaces. Series of necessary conditions are also given that relate (Φ, ρ)-invexity and generalized (Φ, ρ)-invexity of the function with (Φ, ρ)monotonicity and generalized (Φ, ρ)-monotonicity of its gradient.

Sum Formula for Maximal Abstract Monotonicity and Abstract Rockafellar’s Surjectivity Theorem

In this paper, we present an example in which the sum of two maximal abstract monotone operators is maximal. Also, we shall show that the necessary condition for Rockafellar’s surjectivity which was obtained in ([19], Theorem 4.3) can be sufficient.

Generalized monotonicity analysis

Complex economic models often lack the structure for the application of standard techniques in monotone comparative statics. Generalized monotonicity analysis (GMA) extends the available methods in several directions. First, it provides a way of finding parameter moves that yield monotonicity of model solutions. Second, it allows studying the monotonicity of functions or subsets of variables. T...
